York Rhymes With Pork

Alright, I'm planning on making this a daily affair, at least when it's possible so here we go...

  • A New Kind of Interaction
This amazing new technology is developed by a company called Tactiva. It uses a video camera to see your hand movements. it then puts them as a see-thru layer on top of everything else you see on the screen, but it makes them as unobtrusive as possible so that you can still see what is underneath and not be distracted by what your hands are doing. It is aimed at those who need to be the most efficiant on their computer. They call the technology the TactaPad with the slogan "See...Touch...Feel". The site says that the TactaPad WILL support both the Macs OSX and Windows, even though only OSX is shown in thier videos. Unfortuanatly this product hasn't been mass produced as of yet. The company is looking for some one to license the product and bring it into the market. You must, MUST take a look at these demos to see what you can really do with the TactaPad, you should probably watch the Smaller size videos unless you have Broadband or High Speed internet, otherwise the load time is massive. Unfortuanatly this will reign somewhere in the $1000 price range once it comes to the market.

  • Microsoft Store?
Seems like Microsoft has finally decided to jump on the retail store bandwagon...It seems that they are looking for real estate in New Yorks Times Square. While there are a number of different theories on what they will be selling in their store I think that the most likely one is that they will be selling Xbox 360 systems, gamies and headsets, controllers etc.

  • Chinese Game Time Limit
For those of you that don't already know, the Chinese Government has stated that all gamers that play MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games) can only play for 3 hours at a time and then wait another 5 hours before playing again. Quite a few gamers find this unjust as you just get going when your 3 hours is up. Of course the Chinese Governments reasoning behind this is over the fact that many people have died while playing these games because they go to long without drinking, eating, or going to the washroom. Chinese gamers have started this petition to stop the time ban on their favorite games, except instead of signing with their real names, they use their gamertags. Of course unless you have a Chinese language plug-in most of the letters will turn up as ????????, and so on and so forth.

  • Talk Nerdy To Me...

This is a neat little translator that lets you translate English into Binary, Hex or Octal. It's neat...try it out...(The link goes directly to the binary translater, go to the others by clicking on each of the links on the page)

York DOES rhyme with Pork...there's no denying this.

Monkeys Are Forever

Here is a second batch for the second day in a row...Check this stuff out...

  • Holodek
If your interested in a "unique" type of gaming then you will want to check out the Holodek (Flash is required) Using a new type of playing area called the Rotopod you are put inside a sphere in which you can play the games you want. I'm guessing the aim of this is to attract the hard core gamer who wants that fully immersive experiance... From the site:
The sphere (Rotopod) is designed with patented equipment in a spherical configuration displaying projection surfaces of 360, 180 or 90 degrees.

Special audio systems enhance the gaming experiance. Interact in specially designed chairs, each with its own controls and robotic motion simulator.
I suggest you check it out, but unfortuanatly they can only be found in Hampton, New Hampshire. Let's hope they expand and move up to Canada!

  • The Creative Car
This new creative car just finished production. It was created by the winner of the Peugot Design Contest. The winners name is André Costa, he designed this electric powered two-seater car, its name? The Moovie. Be sure to check out the gallery for the car aswell.

  • On Trial
Today Apple released their newest marketing campaign. It's a if you like it keep it! type of idea where you get to try out Apples Mac Mini for 30-Days and if you like it you keep, but you must buy the Mac Mini first and everything that you recieve, including the Apple pro keyboard and mouse that you recieve and you get a full refund in return, no questions asked. Although unfortuanatly this is only available in the US, but if you do in fact live the US and were thinking about getting a Mac, why not test drive one and then make your full decision?

  • Stop Internet Explorer
For those of you that are still CrAzY enough to use IE (Internet Explorer), what with all of the bug reports and security issues with it this site shows you why not to use it and what your alternatives are. A button to it will be going up on my sidebar very soon.

Monkeys are forever, but bananas are turning extinct.

New & Shiny

Alright this is my first post on my very first blog so bear with me here. I'll be showing any and all of the neat things that I find from all around the net.

So here we go....

  • Heliodisplay
I found this around a week ago...It is a new interactive 3D display. That's right, future here we come. This new technology is developed by a company called IO2 Technology. It uses lasers to find out where your hands are and rotates the images displayed accordingly... Images and videos can be found on the site here.

  • Grape Plasma
This site shows how to create what I guess could be called grape plasma. Using just a plate, microwave and a grape you could create your very own plasma right in your kitchen!

Hows that for a snack?

  • A Real Mech
Neogentronyx has been developing this mech for some time now up in Alaska. This is a great move forward in robotics and the greatest thing about it is that it is a step in a totally different direction from anything else that is currently being developed...Check it out as well as their videos of the current and future mechs plus a few news broadcasts about the current mech...

Lastly I suggest to those interested to check out the latest issue of Popular Science, it is all about the "Super Human", from "Smart Drugs" to "External Wombs" to an essay called "Is any of this a good idea?" Check it out you must....

Until next time...
